ESD-protected robotic packaging cell
Two ABB robots place electronic products from the workpiece-carrier conveyor into blisters. The cell handles defective parts separately and is prepared to receive automated material handling.

Task and implementation
Electronic products had to be transferred from an existing workpiece-carrier conveyor into blisters prepared on pallets. Electrostatic protection of the products, handling of defective parts and continued operation during pallet changes were also key aspects of the task.
We designed an ESD-protected cell with two ABB robots, Siemens control and automatic gates. The safety concept allows one robot to keep working while the pallet on the other side is being changed. A manual alternative station is provided for product variants that cannot be automated. The cell is also prepared for the later connection of automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
One robot can keep working during a pallet change
The safety design of the two robots' working areas allows the pallet on one side to be changed while the other robot is in operation. A pallet change therefore does not always stop the entire cell. The manual alternative station receives the product variants that cannot be automated, and the AGV preparation provides a connection option for future material-supply developments.
