Surface coating line with inline inspection
Automated surface coating line with pallet-based product transport, precision spray technology and inline surface inspection covering every part.

Task and implementation
The system transports the products on a pallet conveyor between the individual process positions, so several operations can be carried out in parallel. The process starts with placing the product on the pallet, followed by cleaning and then coating of the surface using precision spray technology. The applied material is water-based and also contains larger-grain components, so the piping between the tank and the dispensing head and the design of the dispensing path played a critical role. For stable operation, we built automatic cleaning and protection against drying into the system.
The quality of the surface coating directly affects the success of the subsequent process steps, so the coating had to be inspected inline, on every single part. For this we used a high-resolution industrial camera system, and inspection of the entire surface was ensured by lifting and rotating the product.
In addition to the coating and inspection operations, the machine also dries the product, so a drying tunnel was also built into the system. The entire equipment is controlled by a Siemens PLC with a unified HMI interface. The solution is also prepared for automatic image saving and MES communication, so that production and quality inspection data can be traced later.
Coating and quality inspection in one production line
The system integrates surface preparation, precision coating application, inline camera inspection and drying into a single automated process. Inspection of every part increases process reliability, while supporting the traceability of quality data and operation suited to an industrial production environment.
